Getting the Best Recovery: Safety, Sizing & Hygiene for Medical Suits
We know that if you are buying a Suitical or MPS (Medical Pet Shirt) product, your pet is likely going through surgery, recovery, or a skin condition. We want them to heal as quickly and comfortably as possible.
These suits are fantastic alternatives to the “Cone of Shame,” but they are specialized medical tools. To ensure your pet stays safe and the product works as intended, please read this guide on how to use, measure, and handle these suits.
1. TailMe is Not Your Vet
While these products are developed by veterinarians and used worldwide, we are not a veterinary clinic.
- A Tool, Not a Cure: A recovery suit is a management tool. It protects a wound, but it does not heal it.
- Monitor the Wound: Because the suit covers the problem area, you cannot see it. You must lift the suit regularly to check the wound for redness, swelling, or infection. Do not assume everything is fine just because the suit is on.
- Ask a Professional: If you are unsure if a suit is safe for your pet’s specific type of surgery, please consult your vet before purchasing.
2. Sizing: Don’t Guess, Measure!
Sizing a medical suit is not like buying a winter coat. The fit affects the medical function.
- Weight is not enough: A 20kg Bulldog has a completely different body shape to a 20kg Greyhound. Relying on weight or breed alone often leads to the wrong size.
- The Consequence of Bad Fit:
- Too Loose: Your pet may be able to wiggle their nose under the fabric and lick their stitches, rendering the suit useless.
- Too Tight: The fabric may rub against the wound, restrict breathing, or cause overheating.
- The Rule: You must measure the distance from the neck collar to the base of the tail. Please follow the specific size guide on the product page exactly.
3. The “No Return” Hygiene Standard
We have a strict safety standard regarding the return of medical suits: If the packaging has been opened or the seal broken, the item cannot be returned or exchanged. As an alternative, if the suit has been medically sterilized (autoclave) then suitable hygiene standards will be met.
Why do we do this?
We do not do this to be difficult; we do this to protect your pet.
- Cross-Contamination: These suits are worn by pets who may have open wounds, skin infections, ringworm, fleas, or contagious viruses like Parvo.
- The Risk: Many pathogens can survive on fabric even after a quick try-on.
- Our Promise: When you buy a suit from us, you need to know with 100% certainty that it is sterile and has never touched another animal. We cannot make that guarantee if we accept opened returns.
Please measure twice so you only have to buy once!
4. Practical Usage (Potty Breaks)
Remember that these suits cover the entire body.
- Bathroom Time: You must unbutton or roll up the back of the suit when your pet needs to go to the bathroom. If you forget, the suit will get soiled, which poses a severe infection risk to the wound underneath.
- Supervision: We recommend supervising your pet when they first wear the suit to ensure they don’t try to chew the fabric.
