The tracker quietly checks for your home Wi-Fi or the included Bluetooth charging dock roughly every 5 minutes. Both the GPS and cellular internet are switched off, and it sends a status heartbeat roughly once every 12 hours.
Note: You cannot open the app to ping where your cat is sleeping in the house or garden—because they aren’t lost, the tracker stays asleep to save power.

When your cat leaves the home boundary, the tracker wakes up at regular intervals—typically every 15 minutes (configurable). While satellite GPS is always the primary and most accurate method, satellite signals cannot penetrate solid roofs, dense tin sheeting, or underground structures. When GPS is blocked, the tracker automatically uses intelligent fallback technologies to ensure you still have search clues:
Satellite GPS (Pinpoint Precision: ~5m – 15m)
Connects directly to global orbital satellites. Requires an open line of sight to the sky. This is the gold standard used whenever your pet is outdoors in gardens, parks, roads, or open veld.
Wi-Fi Positioning / WPS (Suburban Area: ~20m – 100m+)
When your pet is indoors or under a garage where satellite signals are blocked, the device sniffs surrounding Wi-Fi router signatures (it does not need passwords or an internet connection to do this). It checks these signatures against a global crowdsourced database.
⚠️ The Caveat: Because Wi-Fi databases are crowd-mapped, if a neighbor recently moved a router from another city or imported one from overseas without updating its location, the map pin can occasionally be skewed until the database updates.
LBS / Cell Tower Triangulation (General Zone: ~200m – 2km+)
If your pet is trapped in a spot with zero satellite view and no Wi-Fi routers nearby (e.g. inside a metal shipping container, dense drain pipe, or basement), the tracker identifies the nearest cellular mast tower.
⚠️ The Caveat: LBS displays the location of the cellular tower, not your pet’s exact collar. In urban areas this gives you a rough neighborhood radius (~500m); in rural areas it can span several kilometers. It acts as an emergency clue of the general suburb/cell zone.

Q: Why does my tracker’s location sometimes appear inaccurate or jump down the road?
A: This happens when your pet moves into a spot where satellite GPS is physically blocked (such as under a corrugated tin roof, inside a basement, or under dense concrete slabs).
In these instances, the tracker seamlessly switches to its fallback systems: Wi-Fi Positioning or LBS (Cell Tower).
